Votive Candles Have Multitude Of Uses

Sometimes looked upon as small pillars, votive candles have found numerous uses and are sometimes combined with decorative items to be used as gifts. Typically placed inside a glass candle holder, if burned in the correct glass and handled properly, quality votive candles will burn completely away, leaving very little wax residue on the inside of the candle holder.

Votive candles are perhaps one of the most widely used types of candles, and they are available in many different sizes as well as burning lengths. The most popular are six, eight and 10 hour candles and when placed in a glass holder can offer some amazing light reflections. Their colors and aromas can very greatly and are used to enhance decorating for everything from your personal space in a living room to the use as a wedding table decoration.

During holidays, using unscented votive candles placed in a paper bag with sand in the bottom, they are often used as luminaries. Various holidays use these for different reasons, but they can be added to outdoor decorations and being inside bags are protected from the wind. The candles should be kept in the center of the luminary bag to prevent the possibility of the bag catching on fire.

Trimmed Wick Helps Candle Burn Better

All votive candles should be in a tight-fitting candleholder to help them burn properly and if smoke curls from the wick when lit, the candle should be extinguished and the wick trimmed to no more than about one eighth inch. With the wick located in the center of the candle it will help insure the candle burns completely. The wick should be trimmed often when the candle is burned.

In addition, the height of the wick will help determine how the candle light is reflected through the glass. You will always want the wick to burn below the top level of the holder to allow better light reflection as well as for safety. The flame from votive candles should never burn above, or outside, the holder.

Used as scented candles around the home is one of the most popular uses of votive candles and they are also used in religious ceremonies and in many displays. They can be wrapped in silk cloth and used as table decorations, however they should never be burned unless they are in a candleholder. Aromatherapy votive candles are also growing in popularity and many keep them as decorations in the bathroom.
